Dear Parishioners, it is that time of year again. It is when the Diocese kicks off the Annual Catholic Appeal. You soon will be receiving a letter from Bishop Daly asking for your help in the Appeal. This Appeal is very important for work and ministry of the Bishop and Diocese. This appeal keeps all the administrative tasks of the Diocese going from the education and youth ministries to Priestly formation. Our parishes could not function without the support and resources that the Diocese offers us.
This Appeal is our way in South Stevens County parishes to acknowledge our connection with our local church, the Bishop and the Diocese and show our support. I am very happy to report that all the parishes made their respective goals for last year’s ACA. And a special shout out to St. Mary’s who had not made their goal in several years. I am confident we can and will make our goal this year. If we go over our goal the parish will receive a rebate. If the rebate is large enough we can use it for a special project.
Our ACA goals this year are: Springdale: $2,410, Holy Ghost: $5,860 and St. Mary’s: $22,355. Please be generous in our support of our Bishop and Diocese.
ACA Message from Bishop Thomas Daly
During this year’s Annual Catholic Appeal, I invite you to focus on the Eucharist as the “Source and Summit” of our Catholic Faith. Of course, as Catholics, we instinctively understand the Eucharist as Summit of our faith, simply because the Holy Mass is the pinnacle of our weekly worship. But when we receive Holy Communion, we should also see Jesus as the Source of every good in our lives: The Source of prayer; The Source of charity in the home; The Source of forgiveness; The Source of service to the poor; The Source of generosity in good works.
When we recognize that every good thing comes from Jesus, “through whom all things were made,” it is much easier to share those good things with others.
Your generosity enables us to minister to our youth and young adults, foster vocations, care for our priests, give guidance to our Catholic schools, serve our Native American communities, and much more. All these good works require resources and funding, which is why your gift to the ACA is so important. I humbly ask for your generous support.
Each day when I pray in my chapel, I give thanks to God for you and lift up your intentions before Jesus in the tabernacle, who is the true Source and Summit of our faith.
Sincerely in Christ, Most Rev. Thomas J. Daly, Bishop of Spokane
