Preschool October News
Dear Parents,
We have lots of fun planned for the month of October! Please notice the permission slip for our field trip attached, due this Thursday, October 3.
Please notice also the first “Lunch Bunch” event will take place this Thursday. If your child will attend, please sign up on the classroom door by tomorrow. Future “Lunch Bunch” dates can be found on the attached details sheet. Here is a run-down of our upcoming month:
Special Events:
Field Trip to Hidden Acres Orchards on Tuesday, October 8. Please see the form attached for details and return the permission slip by this Thursday, October 3.
Halloween Party and Costume Parade: Thursday, October 31. This is one of my favorite annual events! Send your preschooler to school in costume (might want to send a change of clothes for if the costume gets uncomfortable during the day). We will “parade” down Main Street. Parents are welcome to station themselves along the way and say hi as we pass. We will take pictures once we return and then eat a special Halloween snack. Feel free to join us for picture taking and/or snack.
Apple Fun: We will make apple juice to try using a juicer machine. And, we will have an apple sampling. Students will bring home a sheet that has pictures an names of various types of apples with the ones we’ve tried marked. It might be fun to extend this activity at home by looking for some other types on grocery store visits, trying new varieties and marking them off as well.
Math Activities/Skills:
Students will work on their cutting and gluing skills as well as counting and matching numerals to sets in” In the Orchard”. We will review shapes with some “prizewinning apples”. Students will practice graphing skills with an apple spin and graph activity, count and color apples on an apple tree, count apple seeds, practice patterning (ABAB) and for those who have mastered these; ABBA, and ABC patterns as well., They will practice number identification by counting apples on “clip cards” and finding the corresponding numeral. Students will also work on identifying like objects with an apple themed “Which is Different” sheet.
Writing/Literature Activities/Skills:
Students will use bingo markers to stamp the letter A and an apple, work on rhyming word skills as well as cutting and gluing skills with “Fresh from the Oven”, practice letter identification of both upper and lower case letters by working on apple puzzles that match upper and lower case letters together, spell “apple” using letter tiles, practice writing some apple words on white boards (if ready for this skill), and continue name writing.
Art:
Students will make an apple magnet, make an apple tree using their arm print and finger prints, use apples to stamp, and make a construction paper apple slice with seeds.
Special Interest/Group Time:
Students will work on various fun Halloween themed crafts and skill sheets on Tuesdays and Wednesdays this month. One of the activities during this time will be a pumpkin exploration table where kids can squish and feel the inside of a pumpkin to learn all about it and the seeds. Another will be to paint small pumpkins. Father Jeff will continue coming in on Thursdays to work with the kids on learning “The 10 Commandments” as God’s Rules. Each week, he will talk to them about one of the ten commandments. Then, the kids work together making a poster with pictures from magazines, art, etc. to go along with that commandment.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at home (935-9292).
Sincerely,
