What is hope? Hope is linked to faith which is the belief in things unseen. We must have faith that what God promises us (which is unseen) will come about. It is the confidence that God will make good on his promise despite the darkness around us. Hope has a name as well, Jesus Christ. Do we believe he is God the Son and offers us eternal life if we follow his example? Christ rebuked Peter when he wanted his way of things. Christ suffer, huh, what? That means I have to suffer and undergo trials too. I reject that because I want to have an easy way out. Christ will rebuke us, too, if that is our attitude. Remember Peter eventually followed in Our Lord’s footsteps and was crucified as well. The only apostle who didn’t die a martyr was John. Tough, yes; but do you believe Christ when he said, “I won’t leave you orphans?” He died for us on the cross and rose from the dead. In doing this he proved he was indeed God. Do you believe what the Church teaches when it says the Eucharist is the real physical Body and Blood of God himself, Jesus Christ? Do we believe St. Paul when he writes in 1 Corinthians 2:9 that “eye has not seen, nor ear heard what God has prepared for those who love Him.” We also have such hope if only we truly believe it!
