Dear Parishioners, This Sunday is the last Sunday of the liturgical year. Today the Church celebrates the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, or Christ the King.
Dear Parishioners, This week we will celebrate Thanksgiving. We have so many blessings to be thankful for as individuals and as a parish. Come and give thanks to the Lord for his many blessings to us at a special Thanksgiving Mass at 9 am this Thursday, Nov. 23. Eucharist is a fitting place to give thanks, worship and praise to the Lord who is the giver of every good gift. (Click for more)
Dear Parishioners, The month of November gives us many things to reflect upon. As Fall transitions into Winter and nature falls asleep, we think about death. November is the month we pray for the souls of the dead, especially those of our family and friends (click for more)
Dear Parishioners, This Wednesday at the Faith Night adult formation class, I will begin a three-part study of gender ideology and how this is an offense against the dignity of the human person and the Creator, who has created us male and female. My goal will be first to establish some key tenets of this new gender ideology and what has been happening in society the last few decades. Then I will establish a Christian/Catholic response from Scripture and Church teaching and ways we can compassionately respond. The dates for Faith Night in November will be Nov. 8, Nov. 15, and Nov. 29. There will be no Faith Night on Wednesday, Nov. 22 for the Thanksgiving holiday. (Click for more)
Dear Parishioners, As we close the month of October and begin the month of November we are reminded of two things: the Holy Rosary and the call to holiness. October is the month of the Rosary - a tool to help us grow in holiness. November 1 is the Feast of All Saints - a reminder that we are all called to be saints, to be among the holy ones in heaven. The Rosary has within it the power to move us along the path of holiness, so at the end of our lives we will see the face of God and be the full expression of what God created us to be (click for more)
Dear Parishioners, We just completed our book study of Bishop Barron’s This is My Body at last Wednesday’s Faith Night. I want to thank all those who participated for these past five weeks. It was heavy going at times, but all persevered and it was well worth it. Bishop Barron packed a lot of good Eucharistic theology in the book. There were many beautiful nuggets and insights we were able to take away to grow in our love, appreciation and devotion of the Eucharist.
Dear Parishioners, I want to thank all who helped with and participated in the Rosary Procession last Sunday. At least 50 people walked the grounds as we all prayed the rosary in honor of the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, St. Mary’s patroness. Thank you to...
Dear Parishioners, Today. we honor Our Lady of the Rosary for her feast day with a procession around the grounds of St. Mary’s and breakfast provided by the Knights of Columbus. October is also Respect Life month. St. John Paul II said that in the 20th and 21st centuries our culture has moved to be a “Culture of Death.” Life is a fundamental gift from God and no person or government can violate this gift without grave offense against the Creator.
Dear Parishioners, October is the month of the Holy Rosary and Oct. 7 is the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. Our parish in Chewelah is graced to have Our Lady of the Rosary as our patroness and so we must to honor her and ask for her intercession. After the 10 a.m. Mass next Sunday, Oct. 8 we are going to have a Rosary procession around the grounds. We will carry a statue of Mary around our church and stop along the way to pray the Rosary to then end the procession in the Rosary Garden. (Click for more)

Dear Parishioners, We had a wonderful pilgrimage last Sunday to Spokane to a be a part of Expo ’23 and the Eucharistic Revival. Twenty-one people participated in the day long event taking a charter bus to downtown Spokane. We ate our lunch on the bus and prayed a rosary as we went to the Cathedral just in time to be a part of the mile-long Eucharistic Procession to Riverfront Park. (Click here for more...)
Dear Parishioners, This Sunday is our Bus Pilgrimage from Chewelah to Spokane for Expo ‘23. I believe many graces will come from this for our parishes. I would like to thank all those who gave generously to underwrite this Pilgrimage and make it possible. We want to continue the theme of the “Eucharistic Revival” into our Wednesday All-Parish Faith Nights. The Eucharist is the source and summit of our spiritual and worship life as Catholics. It is what really makes us unique from other Christian churches. We could spend our whole lives delving into this Mystery of the Eucharist and not come to the end of it. This mystery of the Eucharist is the greatest gift and sacrament we have and represents the love of Christ himself. At the first Faith Night this Wednesday, Sept. 13, I will be passing out and introducing the book This Is My Body by Bishop Robert Barron. We will be using this book as a book study and discussion for the next several Faith Nights. We will also hand out the book study schedule that evening. In addition, this Wednesday I am going to give an orientation and introduction to Eucharistic Adoration and our new Adoration Chapel. We will begin the opportunity for parishioners to sign up for an hour a week in the chapel.
Dear Parishioners, it is that time of year again. It is when the Diocese kicks off the Annual Catholic Appeal. You soon will be receiving a letter from Bishop Daly asking for your help in the Appeal. This Appeal is very important for work and ministry of the Bishop and Diocese. This appeal keeps all the administrative tasks of the Diocese going from the education and youth ministries to Priestly formation. Our parishes could not function without the support and resources that the Diocese offers us. (Click for more...)
Dear Parishioners, The Sety’s fire in Chewelah that just happened August 18 is a reminder to all of us how temporary buildings and things are. I was thinking the night of the fire that I could have been looking out the window to see the church going up in flames....click for more.
Dear Parishioners, In today’s Gospel with the woman with the Canaanite woman it is interesting to note that sickness provided the motivation for the woman’s encounter with Jesus. We may not often think about it, but sometimes in our lives it is a moment of tragedy or need that brings us to prayer as well. Every situation in life is an opportunity for prayer. The woman could have stayed at home and fostered anger and resentment at God for her daughter’s affliction, but she didn’t. Instead, she did something. She actively sought out Jesus and brought her request for healing before Him. The Lord wants us to see in our moments of distress an invitation to prayer and deepened relationship as well.
Dear Parishioners, This Tuesday, Aug. 15, is the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is a Holy Day of Obligation. We will being have a Vigil Mass on Monday, Aug. 14 at 5:30 pm at St. Mary’s and on Aug. 15 the Mass will be at 9 am at St. Joseph’s. Click here for more...
Dear Parishioners, this weekend we celebrate the Feast of the Transfiguration. It is such an important Feast that when St. John Paul II gave us the gift of the Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary it was included as the fourth Luminous Mystery. The Transfiguration is a revelation of the glory of Christ. The context of the Transfiguration is that it takes place on Mt. Tabor and is situated just prior to Our Lord entering into his passion and crucifixion. Click to read more...
Dear Parishioners, With the bishop’s approval and in the spirit of the national “Eucharist Revival” we are excited to have a Eucharistic Adoration Chapel at St. Mary of the Rosary. It is in the place of what was the chapel dedicated to Divine Mercy. The image of the Divine Mercy will still be in the Adoration chapel. Now this chapel will house our Lord in the Real Presence of the Eucharist in a special altar. (Click here for more)
Dear Parishioners, The National Eucharist Revival is underway and our diocese is sponsoring an event in Spokane on Sept. 10 called the Eucharistic Expo '23. This is an important way for our parishes to participate in the Eucharistic Revival. We are chartering a bus for up to 34 people to make a day-long pilgrimage from our parishes to Spokane. This will be a fun and spiritually uplifting event. We can enjoy food together and fellowship of other parishioners. The cost will be $30 per person to help pay for the bus but since that will not cover the entire cost, we are asking if some can help underwrite the pilgrimage. The actual Diocesan event is free including a post-celebration with food at Riverfront Park. Please sign up with the office today. (Click for more)
Dear Parishioners, On July 22-23 we will be hosting two seminarians of the diocese here in our parishes. The idea is that these seminaries get to know different parts of the diocese. They will be speaking after all the masses. We are also planning a special event on Saturday, July 22 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s. (Click for more)
