About the Magnificat: Beloved Children of Mary
After much prayer, and because there are many “handmaid" groups, the Handmaids of Mary ministry has changed its name to “Magnificat: Beloved Children of Mary" to be inclusive to fathers as well as mothers. When Mary said “yes” to become the mother of God, she was also saying “yes” to become our mother as well.
Because we, as parents, shared so many needs for prayers for both our young children, and our adult children, this group was formed 17 years ago in Portland, Oregon with a group of friends across the United States. Each of us shared the request for three “Hail Marys” a day for each other’s children in our parishes. Three of the original eight members have since passed away. When Catherine Reimer requested permission to start this in this Diocese, Bishop Daly saw the need and requested a fourth Hail Mary be said for his work as Bishop.
We encourage those who signed up in this parish to continue our mission in prayers for our children, say the three Hail Marys and include one for our Bishop as well, daily. We hope that the men of the parish will become members of this group and say the three Hail Marys for their children and include all children. Mary loves generous souls and we honor her with these prayers. We hope that those who wish would also include the Magnificat at least once a week in honor of our Mother.
There are no planned meetings at this time, hopefully, we can plan a potluck in the future. For those who are new, and for old members who are still active, please email [email protected] or call 509-935-0928 to be included on the email or phone list.
