A few notes: Cat Tales field trip information and permission slips for the Nov. 12 field trip went home last week. Please return your permission slip by this Thursday, November 7.
Keep in mind that “Lunch Bunch” is this Thursday, November 7 for anyone interested. This time was created as an ongoing fundraiser. More information is posted on the classroom door. If interested, please sign up by this Wednesday, Nov. 6. Pajama Day will be November 27 to go along with a great zoo book called, Goodnight Gorilla. Please allow your child to wear their pj’s to school. We will eat popcorn (so you won’t need snack on this day) and watch a movie. This month:
In Language/Writing:
Students will continue practicing their writing skills and name writing. For prewriters, students will trace various types of lines and complete a lion maze to practice developent of their fine motor skills. Writers will practice writing the names of various zoo related words. All students will work on beginning sounds with a “Sleepy cats” worksheet and zoo animal clip cards, make “Snazzy stripes” on a zebra, practice matching letter tiles to letters that spell various zoo animal names, and complete an alphabet maze. And, ou carpet time fingerplays about zoo animals will also contribute to literacy skills.
In math:
Students will practice number formation with number writing sheets, practice counting, number ordering, number recognition, and matching numerals to sets wih a “hanging out” sheet, monkey/banana cut and paste activity, and connect the dots picture. Students will also practice graphing skills with a zoo roll and graph activity. And, we’ll practice discriminating differences between items with a “What Is Different” sheet.
In art:
Students will choose a zoo animal mask to color and decorate. They will choose a zoo animal scratch off to make colorful, and make a paper plate lion face craft.
Group Time:
We will have several varied activities this month. Father Jeff will contnue on Thursdays teaching the kids all about the 10 Commandments and making posters to go with each; as well as beginning to teach the kids the “Our Father” prayer.
We will Talk about Thanksgiving and things we are thankful for and the kids will make handprint turkeys.
We will read the book Polar Bear, Polar Bear to go along with our zoo theme and the kids will act out the animals in the book.
